Beaches in Antigua and Barbuda

There are 365 beaches on Antigua, one for each day of the year.  Every last one of the beaches in Antigua are absolutely stunning representing the very best of Caribbean beaches.  Turquoise clear waters and sparkling white sand are just what you will get when you step outside your Antigua hotel and onto one of the beaches on the island.

The great majority rest inside the calm, protected waters of the island's Caribbean side, however with bays all around, beaches on Antigua's Atlantic side are still safe and calm  All the beaches in Antigua are also open to the public, so venturing outside of your hotel, and finding the best beach to suit your tastes is definitely an option.

With so many beaches in Antigua and Barbuda to chose from, the decision is yours as to whether you prefer a beach in the North, South, East or West.

Northwest Coast:
/Beaches 2/dickenson-bay-index-01Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, located along the island's developed northwestern coast, are the place to go for those who want the fully-loaded resort beach experience. Sandals Grande Antiguan Resort, and Halcycon Cove by Rex Resorts, are just two of the hotels found on the Dickenson Bay, stretch of Beach, while you will find the Siboney Beach Club and the Coconut Beach Club located at Runaway Bay.

The beaches most convenient to St. John's are Fort James, a locally-popular public beach, and Deep Bay. Galley Bay attracts surfers during the winter months and joggers during the evening. The series of four crescent beaches at Hawksbill are also highly regarded, one of which is nudist.

Southwest and South Coast:
/Beaches 2/carlisle-bay-beachThe beaches of the hilly southwest corner of Antigua are generally less developed than those around St. John's further north. On the road that winds along this coast are Ffryes Bay, Darkwood Beach, and the beaches around Johnsons Point.   The Jolly Beach Resort and Spa, is situated in the Southwest of the island, on one of the best beaches in Antigua.  Situated nearby, is Hermitage Bay while you will find Carlisle Bay, and Curtain Bluff in the South.

Rendezvous Bay and especially Doigs Beach, both located on the central southern coast at Rendezvous Bay, are especially quiet beaches worth the rough travel necessary to reach them. Pigeon Point, near English Harbour Town, is a convenient balm after a day at Nelson's Dockyard.  Near to English Harbour is The Inn at English Harbour.

East Coast:

On the southeast corner of Antigua is Half Moon Bay, now a National Park and a good choice for a family outing. Long Bay, on the easternmost point of the island, is another good choice for families, as it is completely protected by its reef.  The Grand Pineapple Beach Hotel,  can be found on this popular beach as well as The Verandah Resort and Spa, which is a short walk away.

On Barbuda: /Barbuda/BAR023_Beach
Barbuda's smooth coastline is edged with long pink and white sand beaches protected by barrier reefs. In fact, the pristine pink beaches of the southwestern shore stretch as far as ten miles without interruption.   The Lighthouse Bay Resort is the sole accomodation on this stretch. The beaches of the island's eastern shore, facing the Atlantic, are somewhat rougher, although they are outstanding for beachcombing.
